ABOUT SAV

Sav Souza (they/them) is a Barrymore Nominated, queer, non-binary, trans-masculine, theater creator and performer.

Sav's passion, curiosity, and empathy bleed into the roles they play and the work they create- which all explode right out of the binary in the most refreshing ways. They strive to challenge audiences to look at life through a queer lens in an attempt to normalize queerness in all its human and theatrical forms.

Favorite performance credits include the world premiere of REGENCY GIRLS (at T
he Old Globe, Dir. Josh Rhodes), the recent Broadway revival of 1776 (Dir. Dianne Paulus & Jeffery L. Page), OTHER WORLD (World Premiere, Delaware Theatre Company), LEMPICKA (World Premiere, Williamstown Theatre Festival), BASIC WITCHES (Barrymore Nomination, Hager Productions), César Alvarez’s THE ELEMENTARY SPACETIME SHOW (Playwrights Downtown).

Sav is also a playwright & lyricist, passionate about putting musicals and plays with queer and trans stories on stage that are sexy, joyful, and free of queer trauma. Their current attempt at this is their musical, WE START IN MANHATTAN written with their writing and life partner Ariella Serur. WE START IN MANHATTAN was developed at Live and In Color as well as Vassar's Powerhouse Theater. Other writing credits include: FATHER//DAUGHTER (Fresh Ground Pepper’s 2021 BRB Artists Retreat); ROYALTY (Short film co-written & co-directed with Logan Thomasson, American Pavillian at Cannes Film Festival, Outfest in 2021); RETROGRADE, (music by Sarah Flaim, Polyphone Festival 2018); BYE, BYE BOOBIES (a one night hit cabaret benefiting their top surgery fund).
