ABOUT SAV

Sav Souza (they/them) is a Barrymore Nominated, queer, transgender, theater creator and performer currently trying to destroy the binary in New York City. Sav is a graduate of The University of the Arts with a BFA in Musical Theatre, class of 2018.

Sav's passion, curiosity, and empathy bleed into the work they generate, with the goal of reaching through audiences to make positive change in the world. Sav’s work lives outside the binary in the most refreshing ways, always challenging audiences to look at life through a queer lens in an attempt to normalize queerness in all its theatrical and human forms.

Favorite performance credits include the world premiere of Lempicka (Williamstown Theatre Festival), Basic Witches (Barrymore Nomination, Hager Productions), César Alvarez’s The Elementary Spacetime Show (Playwrights Downtown and Philly Fringe), Dan Fishback’s The Material World (Polyphone Festival).

Sav is passionate about putting LGBTQ* stories on stage with hopes of opening doors for conversation, empathy, and most importantly- change. Their current attempt at this is their musical, Retrograde, (music by Sarah Flaim), which had its concert premiere in César Alvarez’s 2018 Polyphone Festival. Most recently, Sav wrote, produced, and performed in Bye, Bye Boobies - a one night cabaret benefiting their top surgery fund - where they formally said goodbye to their former female self and their breasts through drag, nostalgia, and irreverence, and made their way to raising over $16,000.

Sav is also a freelance Social Media Coordinator for businesses and theaters as well as a website designer, specializing in websites for theatre makers.
